Amy here. Just wanted to post about a show I have opening up this Friday, September 4th at Lark and Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC. It will take place during the gallery crawl from 6:00-9:00 and will run throughout the month of September. I'll have lots of new work there and will post pictures from the gallery once it's all set up. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Lark & Key presents new works from Angie Renfro & Amy Sanders Sept 2nd - 27th, opening reception Friday Sept 4th from 6-9pm Angie Renfro’s paintings capture the simple beauty of everyday objects and landscapes. A native Texan, her inspiration is derived primarily from long road trips across the state. From power lines to empty fields, the aesthetic of the stark Texas landscape is translated into her work, capturing images that are at once lonely and captivating. Renfro’s intention is that by drawing attention to such objects, the viewer too, will appreciate their quiet unassuming beauty. Currently living in San Francisco, but holding on to her Texan roots, Renfro is becoming increasingly successful and her paintings are sought after throughout the United States. She was named "Artist to Watch" by Southwest Magazine in October 2006 and was featured in American Art Collector magazine, August 2008. Textiles, quilting and most recently the role of new mother have inspired the pottery of Amy Sanders. She finds herself conflicted with the joyful energy of raising a family and the desire for solitude and creative studio time. He current work explores this new identity, invites touch and evokes and sense of comfort. Amy’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States, in several publications and the American Craft Council Shows. Back From England

Hi Folks, Ron here. Sarah and I just returned from a trip from England. While there we visited the Art in Clay Festival at Hatfield House. It was amazing!!! We saw tons of pots and I met some of the best potters in the UK. Above you see some slipware made by Paul Young.

Below is a shot of me and the famous Mary Wondrausch. She is a gem. We definitely had to have a pot of hers!
We made a trip to St. Ives and visited the Leach Pottery. It was amazing to be in the workshop knowing that Bernard and Hamada and so many other great potters had made pots there.
Later on we visited John Leach's Pottery in Somerset. Pottery overload!!! I love John's pots.
Below another image from Art in Clay. There was a lot of ceramic animals and figurative work at the show.

Needless to say I was so inspired. Now back at home I have to get to making some pots. Tons of ideas in my head. I'll have plenty of new work for the Circle Sale coming up on Oct. 3, 2009.

Drawn To Clay

Ron here. I wanted to post about the Drawn to Clay exhibition.

Jennifer Mecca, Amy Sanders and I will have work in this exhibition at Claymakers in Durham, NC. The show will be up from Aug. 21st – Oct. 10th. Opening reception Aug. 21st, 6pm – 9pm.

“Drawn to Clay: Vessels Emblazoned” gathers together 20 of North Carolina’s best ceramic artists. Each potter and ceramic artist in this show is known for their unique approach to enlivening the surfaces of their ceramic vessels with imagery. Techniques and content vary from artist to artist, but quality, creativity, and invigoration tie these 20 ceramicists together in this special exhibition at Claymakers in downtown Durham.

ARTISTS: Jennifer Stas, Naomi Dalglish, Michael Hunt, Blaine Avery, Bruce Gholson, Samantha Heneke, Ronan Peterson, Jennifer Mecca, Ron Philbeck, Amy Sanders, Matt Kelleher, Shoko Teruyama, Susan Feagin, Corinne Fox, Kelly O’Briant, Carol Gentithes, Fred Johnston, Laura Korch, Michael Kline, and Gillian Parke.

Carolina Creations

We have a show coming up in New Bern NC at Carolina Creations. Please check out the website for lots of great crafts and information concerning our show! July 10th is the Opening reception if live around Eastern Nc or plan on going towards that NC coast for a vacation this summer. New Bern is such a wonderful little town with so much to do and see. Our shows runs from July 1st to August 26th. Our quests are Dina Wilde-Ramsing and Michael Kline.

I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of some pots that will be on display from June 3rd-28th at Lark and Key in Charlotte. Please stop by Friday, June 5th from 6-9pm.

As you can see I am using blue and green celadons and a variety of imagery from nature for my inlay designs. Each one is hand drawn, wheel thrown or handbuilt and probably altered somewhere along the way. We have been in full bloom the past few months in Charlotte and my surroundings can't help but inspire me. I hope you enjoy the new work and maybe see you at the opening.

Successful and Fun Spring Sale
